We've released a "Community" plugin designed to give "add category" and "add photo" rights to specific users. Once they have these "Community rights", they can use pLoader (remote client for photo preparation and upload) to add photos.

You're rude, but you're right :-/ We need to make Piwigo user interface easier at user level and improve the documentation (the easier the user interface will be, the less we will need a documentation to explain it). Don't hesitate to come on Piwigo forum and open discussions.

Looks great but:
1: Lightbox / shadowbox is NOT supported.
2: Local .flv streaming malfunctions.
3: No option of adding tabled descriptions/dropdowns/etc.
Otherwise brilliant and well designed. Unfortunately, without the above it just doesn't cut it.

Very pretty presentation, but like many open source projects, much is left to be desired in the instructions. If I understood what these guys were saying, I would scratch build my own gallery. The sooner these guys learn to write for end users, the sooner these guys will earn a living.

The important feature for me is the ability to have the image gallery and the images on different servers. That is, my web host only allows about 2GB of web space. But I have unlimited space at another server on the internet.
I can not host my web page at the server with unlimted space since it has too high latency. But for images it is ok. So, a perfect marriage.
Changing theme is not too hard, but as was said earlier takes some time in some editor.
Oh, and it has a REST interface for you out there that gets excited about web services, like me.

with over 13,000 photos in my personal gallery i tried a few different gallery's but like the set-up of Piwigo, re-adjusting the theme to suit my personal taste involved re-design rather than downloadable theme (but was still done pretty easy through the admin section if you have a little HTML experience) I've yet to have any running problems with this software but tags are a bit of a pain (type in as per photo would be nicer like 4images rather than the tick boxes (with over 500 tags that a lot of scrolling) judging by the mass of unanswered questions in their forum, fault solving maybe a bit hit or miss

It seems very nice and has a lot of features. It's a little hard to use if you intend to have users who upload. You need to modify a lot of things and the explanations aren't always so good.
It would have been my second choice after Zenphoto.
