sNews is a completely free PHP and MySQL driven tool for publishing and maintaining news articles on a website. Integrating sNews into your existing design is simple, but you could also use sNews on it's own, as a simple Content Management System. Consisting of only one engine file, sNews is extremely lightweight, very easy to install, and easy to use via a simple web interface.

The last release is from 2008 - the current update are only minor changes... project dead?

Very lightweight and easy to work with any website design. I use this and modx as my two cms systems. Snews is very easy for clients / users to pick up and understand from the admin menu - much easier to explain than other cms such as drupal / joomla. They will be up and running wth minimal effort and training- ideal for small club websites or websites that only need the actual "content" managed - no bloat or stuff they don't need. Not that you cant do more with the system - but it is a developers tool so if you want more your going to have to delve into the code and create your own solutions or implement those from the forums. I use modx as my other cms /cmf as this too is easy to port designs to and has more features and add ons - suitable for more complex installations.

i think this project is dead - the foudner left it alone and the community only talks how the upcoming release might be

Development seems to have stopped, is this still active?

sNews is a great CMS. Very easy to install if you follow the instructions properly ;)
I have limited knowledge of PHP / MySQL but know HTML and CSS inside-out so managed to set up customised templates without any problems. Also very easy to integrate with an existing website.
Overall..great for small sites that need a cms that is easy to manage..but not great if you want something more powerful like document management, or require lots of plugins. Other CMS I have used: plone, moodle, sharepoint, joomla, and would definitely recommend snews.

The only problem is your lack of knowledge. This CMS is a developers tool, read their website...

One engine file is Lightweight? Timesaving? If you want to save some time - learn how to use Drupal instead. If you don't believe me, waste couple of months with sNews to find out that it probably doesn't suit your needs. Then start to modify that one single lightweight file to suit your needs and then face serious problems.

Hi. I am reasonably new to web development and have been looking for a way of creating a simple ( to start with ) web deployment environment that requires very little in the way of configuration.
I was able to download the source and had it all up and running within 1 hour ( reading all of the help along the way ). I love the idea and will try to make use of this type of technology in one or two small developments.

Incredibble, SEO friendly URL was awesome. After trying many huge cms, this my choice.

Commenting on version 1.7
You must know php and some mysql and have a passable knowledge of things like .htaccess files etc. to set up this system.
Pros
Easy to convert an existing site into it.
Friendly support forum, great help if you can explain your problem well
Fast implementation of a new web site.
Small and fast loading - will not bog down your site the way so many CMS systems do.
Has the basics for what you need most.
Cons
No error logging, code that throws a lot of notices due to undeclared variables; the subcategory feature is very new and not yet well thought out.
No plug in system.
Very poor names for global variables mean conflicts with add on php scripts are inevitable.
Worthwhile if you need something small and fast loading and are willing to fiddle with php code to get things the way you want them.

Terrific little CMS. I'd be nervous about the security of the contact form (but I'm going to pass it through my spam trap to test it) but otherwise, great! V 1.7 has sub-categories. Great for a small site or a blog!

Need to add start end date against each record otherwise It would have won!

I love the idea behind a really simple CMS in only one PHP-file. This is what many of my clients need, nothing more fancy. However, there is one major drawback, which makes it unusable for any of my clients - there is only one level of navigation. Shame -othervise I would gladly use it for my projects, and even make a donation.

sNews features and look and feel are great.
But the code is terrible.
Version 1.7 throws a lot of notices.
It wastes performance.
Its a pity.
Greetings from germany.

sNews is very light and nice script. In my site the code library is powered by sNews script.
