Guess it's safe to say that Geeklog recently received an update to version 1.7.0.
Check the changes at http://www.geeklog.net/docs/english/changes.html
Also, I agree with a comment below. This piece of software deserves more then 2 stars. So everyone please promote ;)
And, to show a few working examples of sites using Geeklog:
Big community: http://www.macosxhints.com
Geeklog themes: http://demo.geeklog.net/vthemes/index.php
The demo site is a bit slow so be patient, their main site geeklog.net is drastically faster.
I'm obviously not affiliated with any of those sites. I'm just an enthusiast that appreciates the product :)

I am new to this, want to know if sites done using OpenSource templates can be delivered to clients? How about SEO

Well, my PAID hosting service does not, suprisingly enough.
Although it's really cheap and offers PHP, ASP, MySQL, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited email, etc. so I probably shouldn't complain.
But one would have hoped the guys who built this cms would have taken into consideration that there are hosts that doesn't have this feature.

Well it has been greatly improved with version 1.4, the two big things for me are the editor and the links management.
Worth a try.. I've been using it for 4 years!

register_globals = on is no longer requiered in the core gl software

Geeklog 1.4.0 is one of the biggest updates in Geeklog's history and introduces the following new features and changes:
Geeklog now officially works with register_globals = off.
Ships with FCKeditor (WYSIWYG editor).
Supports Trackback, Pingback, and pinging weblog directories.
Remote authentication lets registered users of remote services such as Blogger.com and LiveJournal log into your Geeklog site without having to register.
New syndication framework that can both read and write feeds in RSS (0.9x and 2.0), RDF, and Atom (0.3 and 1.0) formats.
The links and polls sections are now plugins and can be disabled, removed, or replaced easily when you don't need them.
Revamped Admin sections to provide a consistent look and sortable lists.
New search only returns a specified amount of results per page, thus avoiding the embarrassing timeouts on large databases.
... and more.

GL has released a new version which addresses many of the issues brought up here. Mainly,
it now has a built in wysiwyg editor and no longer requires PHP Globals to be off (or on whichever the case may be for your server... it swings both ways).
They've also encorporated: Trackback/Pingback, Remote Authentication, better syndication (RSS), the ability to disable formerly set components (links, polls, etc)
The new version is 1.4.0 BETA 1 and can be downloaded from www.geeklog.net

Been useing Geeklog with forums plugin (phpbb) for over a year on one site with no problems at all ever. Very nice script, lots of options with ease of use, and pro features to boot.
Just make sure to backup everything before updating because I had some issues once, but nothing to damper how well worth the script is, I love it

I'm going through the whole list of CMS and downloading and installing a selection of those that seem more appropriate to my project.
Geeklog is so far the only one that caused me to abandon the setup. 1) because of the registrar global restriction 2) because of the need to split the file between the public and private part of my server (I ignored that part anyway) 3) because of the fiddly way of having to edit two config files and also run an install script (the path for which is referenced to wrongly in the help file) - shame because the demo looked good and it did make it into my top five selections out of the 33 or so CMSs shown on this site).

GeekLog is the best! It has many options. I'm running a GeekLog with forum, journal, and bookmarks plugins. It's powerful with these plugins. Take a LOOK!
