I like this CMS a lot, but it's pretty slow on my webhost. That could be for a number of reasons, but..
Kinda muddling interface too, has a ton of bells and whistles, but seems a bit top heavy for my taste. Still, I will keep an eye on developments.

I just loaded this on my home server running xp with appserver. I tried to install many of the goodies, but windows plain and simple not the best to host sites with,
use ubuntu server and if want the kubuntu desktop. Centos is pretty good too.

The image gallery is pro and top notch. Has built in for video and audio encoding if you install ffmpeg.

The real reason to use bitweaver is because it's so flexible and to mold it the way you desire.

For my main site I run Wordpress MU because I feel it's the best out there thus far. Bitweaver would be my second choice.

Installed latest v2.5 with default settings under RubyStack and XAMPP for WinXP. Menu and CSS styles are broken for FF, IE, Chrome and Safari browsers (Windows version). icon images all show 1px borders and menu is not formatted or float left. I wished it had worked.

I installed 2.5 freshly on my windows server. It did not display correctly.

The problem was reported before on Feb 1 2009, but is still not solved (April 3).

Especially the remark: "Almost none of the main Devs use Windows or IE, so these bugs live longer than others." made it a NO-GO for me.

Bitweaver, and it's developers, have impressed the hell out of me for years.

(Personal note: Since version 1.3.1 I've downloaded and installed it on my development machine to test it, put it thru it's paces, poke around under the hood... but I had not put it up on a live site mainly because of my own laziness.)

With each iteration, bitweaver has become more stable, included more features, and become a more well-rounded CMS in general. It doesn't restrict a site operator to any particular database/server platform, and the code is so well commented that you could write a book.

All this extensibility comes at a cost, of course. Since you aren't locked into a particular platform, you (as the site operator) have to know stuff you might not ordinarily, like the deep guts of Apache configuration, or Stylesheets (css).

I must say that, out of the box, Bitweaver's Themes appear kinda 'Plain Jane' (my apologies to all the Janes out there), but more web-designers need to understand the value of Negative Space - there again, you can tweak it until you need sunglasses. And the fluid display of content-appropriate menu's is impressively subtle and fascinating.

If you're looking to put up a 'Look at the pictures of my dog' site, there are simpler packages that will suit your needs quite well. But if you're looking for a CMS that can grow with your user's needs/wants, one that is pretty close to industrial strength, you could do a LOT worse than Bitweaver.

And the Bit_Commerce package, while not ready for prime-time, is coming along nicely.

Now, with v2.5, I'm actually getting off my butt and setting up a live site.

I've tried most of the more popular wiki and CMS apps but they all just seem so 'heavy' for my intended use. This script seemed like it would be perfect, but I ran into a roadblock with the requirement for 16MB of script memory; I have 8MB. I like my host and can't afford to pay more for an account that is really just for a vanity project, so I'm back to the drawing board. Sucks. I would have really enjoyed test driving this app.

Dunno, it seems to be working fine here (just installed v2) - what did you come across? Site went down today, yes, I was so pissed... exactly when I was searching for an Active Directory (LDAP) Auth how-to! Now it's a default Apache Test page, hopefully they'll be back soon.

Well, it seems to me that Bitweaver 2.0 is still BETA! Full of bugs...! And now the site is offline... hope the devs are not killing each other... :(

Someone mentioned that it can be hard to get a response from the developers. While the forums are checked, the core developers are around on a daily basis on the freenode IRC channel #bitweaver. Please drop by if you need help or have questions.

Bitweaver 2 is well structured and powerful! All modules (forum, wiki, blog and more) installs automatic if U like. No mumbo jumbo with mis-matched plugins. Several changeable themes. More then 20 switchable Gala standard column formats in just 1 click. All modules free open source in compliance w. std CSS and XHTML. Ajax inside. Installs in plain english on most (all?) php-servers. Absolutely a top choice for extended blogs and small to big portals w. community approach. Downside: Not very fast. Full installation ~15MB. I'm just an impressed noob (no profit).

i really like this cms because of the simple lay out!

I don't know why, but this installation is not in English, and you can't change it to English - the import languages function is busted. This is a shame, because I really want to test this one out.

Its pretty well put together, certainly useful in some situations where you haven't got alot of specific extra requirements.
