    Contao Open Source CMS Description
Contao Open Source CMS (fka TYPOlight) is an open source content management system for people who want a professional internet presence that is easy to maintain. The state-of-the-art structure of the system offers a high security standard and allows you to develop search engine friendly websites that are also accessible for people with disabilities. Furthermore, the system can be expanded flexibly and inexpensively. Easy management of user rights, the Live Update Service, the modern CSS framework and many already integrated modules (news, calendar, forms, etc.) have quickly made Contao one of the most popular open source content management systems on the market.

    Contao Open Source CMS
    • is technically up to date,
    • generates Standards-compliant (X)HTML code,
    • is suitable to create accessible websites,
    • can be installed on shared hosting servers,
    • supports collaboration with different permissions,
    • requires less resources than comparable CMS and
    • can easily be customized or extended.

Contao is just a great piece of software. Once you get used to the site structure, it is very easy to use to tweak to enhance.

    I like it.

    TYPOlight/Contao is great.

I used it to create a small site for a antique shop. The owner can update and add photos, etc easily. Template creation was easy, even for a beginner like me.

We are using Typolight for more than a year now, and from experience I can say that Typolight is one of the best CMS software out there.

    Sure there are some cons:
    Hard to manage for clients,
    Complex to add pages,
Can't edit from the front website,
Hard to update after you've hacked the core! :D

    Pros:
    Easy for developers
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST BACKEND (generic, build from configuration)
    Easy to create modules
    100% template output
No design out of the box
The best installation ever seen in a CMS!
A lot out of the box modules (Articles, News, Form Builder, Newsletter, Banners, Calendar/Events, FAQ, Tasks...)
Many community modules (but still less than Drupal for example)

If you are developer I recommend that you try Typolight!

    i love typolight
    it has many advanced features
security and acl is better than joomla
but it need more templates and module desigeners

The best OS CMS out there i've tried. Very straight forward and transparent.

    Only 4 minor issues:
    - Not enough extra features (modules) yet
    - Can become a little slow on the admin site with expanding site structures (filled with articles).
    - Could be a little more friendly for the client in usage.
    - Manual updating can be a pain if you've rewritten some module templates.

I think some shortcuts would be a big advantage. Clicking page, then article, then content element isn't the fastest way to go in maintenance.

But, it's really easy for the developer, even for designers!

I promise the next fork will be far better than this one:
    - community driven
    - no more copyright notice
    - more open minded licence (perhaps new BSD)
    and much more..

soon delivered at your door, be prepared!

I installed it and thinking of uninstalling it. Yes it is very organized but I mainly wanted to use script, css, html also on my site. Yes it does provide some of it tho I had a very hard time trying to figure out how to put my google adsense ads. Honestly not for me.

(+) easy to use for web authors
(+) easy to set up for admins
(+) easy template-system (templates outsourced into files!! great for subversion!!)
(+) includes most frequently needed features
    (+) high performance
(+) active community and books available
(+) extensions are easy to install

    (-) only 99% template based
(-) included standard templates have much overhead
(-) no support for creation of individual content elements
(-) CSS framework builder is unintuitive to use

I agree that although this one is relatively designer/developer friendly, more effort should be made to make it easier for the editor at the client's side.

Nasty code? Probably one of most well-designed pieces of code I have seen in a long time. We moved all our client sites from Joomla/Drupal over to TypoLight and are never looking back. Easy setup, simple templating, great developer community, one-click delivery of extensions & updates (with a LiveUpdate ID), very designer and developer friendly... Cut our time to develop sites in half, and with more extensions coming every day, I see nothing but good things in store.

Hope someday, someone will fork it, because it's a well designed CMS (even thought all the great idea inside it belongs to TYPO3) but with some nasty code

Being a Drupal developer, I'm impressed with TYPOlight. It's a straight forward CMS. Template creation is easy.

Still not easy enough. A client would still need an at least somewhat trained employee to administer this CMS.

Awesome! Just so Awesome! Thats it! Im lovin it

After much searching for an easy and user-friendly cms that my clients would be be able to use with little training, typolight seemed like the perfect option, especially after trying out the demo. However, installing the cms is impossible. I tried it on my local host first, then with my web host - still the same problem. I've searched through the documentation, forum, faq's. Although somebody had the same problem in one of the forums, no real solution was posted. Looks like its back to Joomla!!
