    FlatPress Description

Great blogging script, no mysql data base! even better since hackers love hacking Wordpress (I love wordpress too, but so do hackers).

I've used this for a while now - it's great. With regard to the low number of templates, well, how many do you really need? I just customise one of the standard ones to make it look exactly how I want it to. It doesn't take too long to get your head around the Smarty templating system and, once you do, you'll find that this opens up a whole new side to FlatPress where you can customise the look as much as you want, and make it do pretty much anything you want as well.

FlatPress sites are easy to set up (ridiculously easy - the learning curve is quite flat too) and creating content is easy - whether you want to do it using the built-in web interface, by using Windows Live Writer or ScribeFire, or even by e-mail or mobile using a service such as Posterous.

The comment about the low number of people seeking help on the forum - maybe that's testament to the fact that they don't need any help? The forum's there and the author provides fantastic support, as do many of the other users - though this is rarely to fix bugs, more to help people get more out of FlatPress than they thought was possible.

Used to use Blogger but now host my blog on my own webspace using Flatpress. Very capable blogging software giving you complete control over your blog and no SQL database required. The only downside I can see is the lack of templates (and I don't think they are too easy to create).

As noted in another comment for another flatfile system, because I am more of a 'tweaker' and ideas for sites/blogs come and go for me, it's rarely worth it for me to install many 'large' blogs or CMS requiring SQL and all that, so I look for flatfile scripts. NowhereMan's flatfile FlatPress is a lightweight (about 330k), simple blogging script with good support, though there's not a whole lot of people crawling around the site asking for help so I can only speak for the level of support for the relatively low amount of users. There are official and user-created templates, plugins, a good variety of interactive discussion about features, basic preferences and maintenance, widgets (sidebar blocks), etc! Here is one of my sites using FP, with my own (not terribly professionally) modified theme: [drama.zanysite.com]

I use this platform for my blog and is very simple and works with flat files, very useful without mysql support.
