OpenSourceCMS shows only the basic installation of Serendipity (s9y), which is fast and lightweight for blogging. But with its central repository of themes and plugins, Serendipity can do so much more! The SPARTACUS plugin gives you access to the repository. Check out [spartacus.s9y.org] to see what's available! Unfortunately, OpenSourceCMS won't let you install new plugins or themes from the repository. At your own website, it's a one-click process to modify Serendipity to do almost anything you want! Here at OpenSourceCMS, you can check out the Bulletproof template. It allows customization of tabs, links, and appearance from a simple web interface. (Just remember to clear your cache so you can see the new style.) Serendipity is fast and easy for beginning bloggers, with powerful plugins and themes. Web designers will appreciate its Smarty template system. Advanced users will love the elegant code and customization possibilities. And support is amazing at the Serendipity forums. I highly recommend Serendipity for anyone who wants dynamic content on their website!

Hi All, I have played with Serendipity and quite frankly, love it. Check out keyword Bulletproof template on google. A great template that is fully customizable and looks great regardless the browser you are using. That alone makes Serendipity the standard to beat. Encore!

* amazing perspecuity * permission system by category flexible by defining groups * but only flat single category layer...no tags * syndication by category * WYSIWYG editor? (Works on IE5+, partially in Mozilla 1.3+) * excellent import from all other blog engines! * full rss feed export * nice templates and skinning options

Clean and well-structured Frontend. AdminPanel is somehow untidy: Many clicks to get back to starting point after an action. Excellent handling of images; photo-blogging is fun with this blog. Nice plugins (FAQ, static-pages). A little slow to me, wordpress is only better in speed, text-handling and handling of static-pages.

I was disapointed after these praises to find that it didn't support multi blogs - just multi user. I couldn't find a plugin to add that either. This was after spending hours trying to get the custom setup to work but had to do a simple setup in the end. However it is great for what it can do, but it's not better than LiveType, which has that certain something about it.

Blogs are pretty crowded territory these days, however this one rises above the crowd by a long way. Wordpress people love Wordpress and Textpattern people love Textpattern. You will never change their minds. However for everyone else, this is the best blog, bar none. Very intuitive Admin, and in the advanced mode everything is configurable. It is a system you can grow with and the quantity and quality of plug-ins is very impressive. This is a mature system and it shows. Nothing is wasted and everything has a place clearly and logically designed and carried out. Check it out...you won't be sorry!

Serendipity is a really great weblog software, simple and yet advanced. Have been using it for quite sometime now, and i can tell you this, it's excellent. Posting an entry is easy, making a template for serendipity is totally uncomplicated, and you just got to love the amount of plugins that they have. I have written the top 5 reasons why i chose serendipity over other weblog software, you may find it here http://technovice.net/archives/31-Top-5-Reasons-Why-Serendipity-Is-Better.html

This is one of the best blogging programs out there. Serendipity was very easy to set up. The administration features were intuitive and easy to navigate. The one problem I did have with Serendipity had to do with its trackback tool. I have gotten the following errors when I link to other blogs. 'The autodiscovered trackback URI does not match our target URI' 'Trackback failed: No trackback-URI found'. The Serendipity website (http://www.s9y.org/48.html) describes these errors and recommends that you download a plugin. However the link to the plugin doesn't seem to be working. - http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/php-blog/additional_plugins/serendipity_event_trackback/ Overall I highly recommend Serendipity to anyone who is looking for blogging software.

To the reviewer who said 'The only thing missing to Serendipity is the ability to create HTML pages next to the blog.' - There is an auto module called Static Page that allows you to create a static text page that is not part of the blog. The static page allows HTML code.

This is the first CMS that I have used and I think it is unbelievable. The administration tools are extremely in depth and easy to use. I was initially thinking of writting my own CMS from scratch but once I fiddled with Serendipity I decided that I couldn't do any better myself. I would highly recommend Serendipity to anyone.

You will simply not find a better blogging solution anywhere! I have never experienced a greater level of support from developers and users alike. Never. Every single question I ever posted on their forums was answered completely, and quickly. The main site is mostly a wiki, which can be a real turn off to some. I personally think they should implement more of a dot com front end. However, get to their forums at http://www.s9y.org/forums/index.php, and users there will help you find anything, and everything, you need. On a scale of 1-10, this solution, and its developers and users, are an 11... or a 20... or a 100! You get my point!

i installed a lot of wordpress blogs, but actually switched to serendipity for my next projects. this is a clean, functional system, no messy code. user management is excellent as you can disable every single backend function. so you can build a newbie weblog as easy as an fully featured blog. thanks to developers!
