Despite its technical sophistication and advanced functionality, the PrestaShop e-Commerce Solution is very light (around 2 MB not including translation files), so it's easy to download, install, and update.
PrestaShop is so lightweight and speedy, even customers with slow connection speeds will enjoy buying from you!

There do not seem to be any professional, commercial templates available. It's very disconcerting to see only amateur templates.
Otherwise it's an exciting platform!

Simply the best I've ever tested.
Very nice look, fine administration modules with lots of cool resources, fast, easy, and nice coded too.
I was looking for an eCommerce to substitute my online store (Magento).
No more comments at all...

If you want to sell digital downloads - why not try osCMax.com - osCommerce derivative with similar functionality to PrestaShop.
(Not sure why it is not listed on this site already!)

Prestashop is a great software for starting your e-commerce site. I agree with Simon - codebase is really lightweight (compared to Magento). Also community around it is very active and it seems to be developing fast.
I like open source, free and easy-to-use software, Prestashop is just fine because of that, and you can extend it anytime (when sales increase) with commercial mods, my personal favorite is one page checkout, which makes whole new feel: http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/31657/job_offers_and_services/module_fast_checkout_single_page

Prestashop rocks! It is fast, codebase is lightweight and quite easy to extend (compared to Magento). It may be necessary to extend it at least for express checkout, but there is also free mod with some limited functionality and also some commercial mods (comparison here: http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/43016/)

Poor coding though lightweight. Lots of things still needs to be managed and fixed.

At first glance of the demo it looks promising but I won't use it, purely because the only way to make it useful is to buy (expensive) modules to extend it. It's the same with magento - these people aren't in it for the love of open source, they're in it for the money.
Sorry, but I'm sticking with joomla + virtuemart

I've try & compare more than 5 e-commerce CMS. And when i found Prestashop ... Wow this is what i want!. I'm using it for my online store.
Custom Extension is very easy to develop
Although ... i can't updating it to the last version stable yet, because i'm facing some problem when trying to updating it in localhost.
Try it ... an you'll love it

Hi, I think the PRESTA is really fine piece of Software. It is pretty simple and usable. But there are some missing functionalities in PRESTA especially comparing to other WebCart solutions e.g. like there is no solution for "guest users" and checkout is little complicated. (to many pages and requires registration). All other competitor have solutions allowing processing orders made by "guests". As I could see there are some commercial modules which fill this gap like the one (Fastlane checkout) described in here http://www.prestashop.com/forums/viewthread/35276/offer_bids_and_prestations/module_fast_lane_checkout. I think there is more than this example. Using the commercial modules you can get all benefits you require.

Are you kidding me...Presta shop rocks. I am no expert, but already have 4 different prestashop installs. The learning curve is small, and it works like a charm. It also seems that they keep improving it. Their forum is full of info, and help. Presta shop is the only way to go!!

Presta is great for a physical store but forget it if you want to sell digital downloads.
As for the comment about CubeCart i can tell you that I've been working with CubeCart since Version 3.0.7 and while it is probably the easiest script to get to grips with if you want support then your on your own. The problem is that V3 is very basic so you need to modify it and there are literally 100's if not 1000's of mods available which is great. The problem though is as soon as modify any part of the script then support will refuse to look into any problems. IT doesn't matter what you've modded, it can be as simple as adding a custom skin but as soon as support spots this they will refuse support and tell you to find a developer.
Forget about V4 too! Not only is it as buggy as hell but half the features don't work! For example if you sell digital items then you can't use the manual order feature because you can only create an order for a physical product because a download link won't be generated. There is even a bug report about this but the developers refuse to accept that it's a bug! Then theres all the cart emptying problems! There are so many threads on their forums complaining but nothing is done. Shocking for something that costs $130!
If you want something basic then go with CubeCart 3 but remember that it IS NOT opensource but please don't waste your money on V4 unless your a coder yourself so you can fix the problems!
Presta on the other hand is much better than CubeCart with the exception of digital downloads and Magento is a nightmare unless you use a dedicated server which isn't something everyone wants to spend out on when they are just starting out.
